About Daniel Ruesch Design

History

Daniel Ruesch Design, Inc. is a graphic design firm located at the base of the mountains in Alpine, Utah. Dan Ruesch has worked as an independent graphic designer for most of the last 30 years. He specializes in corporate design and illustration for both print and the internet.

After earning a BFA degree in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University in 1979, Dan Ruesch spent three years as the art director of the Utah-based advertising agency, Soter Associates. In 1982 he formed a partnership with a long-time associate, Steve Grigg, and together they built one of the largest graphic design studios in the state of Utah, Tandem Studios.

The most notable client of Tandem Studios was Novell, Inc. The branding campaign that Dan designed for Novell was a key element in Novell's rise from almost zero to nearly $2 billion in annual sales. Dan designed the initial corporate identity and software packaging for Novell as well as tradeshow graphics, newsletters, direct mail campaigns and other corporate communication pieces. His relationship with Novell spanned an 11-year period.

In 1992 Tandem Studios merged with EvansGroup and Dan Ruesch became the president of its graphic design division, Evans-Tandem Design. A major client was a publisher of books and software products in the medical coding industry, Medicode, Inc. The branding campaign that Dan designed for Medicode quickly became the standard to which the entire industry aspired. In the year 2000, the largest player in the industry, Ingenix, purchased Medicode. Dan continued to design book covers for Ingenix for the next several years.

With a desire to pursue other creative interests, Dan left Evans-Tandem Design in 1995 and started his career as an independent graphic designer and illustrator. He works from his home office in Alpine, Utah — conveniently located between business centers in both Salt Lake and Utah counties. In the intervening years, Dan has designed branding campaigns for Utah Symphony & Opera, Deer Valley Music Festival, the University of Utah School of Music Virtuoso Series, and many others. His services have also been retained by Sizzling Platter, Inc. to design promotional campaigns for Sizzler, Little Ceasars, Red Robin and Ruby River.

Dan now thoroughly enjoys his scaled-down, one-man operation. In spite of his welcomed reduction in staff, Dan stays very busy designing and illustrating logos, book covers, brochures, web sites, mailers, etc. for businesses nationwide.
